Dendrobates Leucomelas or also known as Bumblebee frog is a common frog found in the northern part of continent of South America, most notably in Venezuela. You can meet these frogs akso in some parts of Guyana and Brazil. Dendrobates Leucomelas inhabit tropical forests with very high humidity. You can find them on flat rocks, trees, plants (notably bromeliads), and the leaf litter of the forest floor.
Dendrobates Leucomelas are a middle size poison dart frogs. They have a yellow base color with contrasting black splotches and bands. Frogs use such bright coloration to inform predators that they are poisonous. The average adult size rarely exceeds 4 cm. Females tend to be slightly larger than the males, but otherwise, little in their appearance can be used to determine the sex of the species. Yellow-banded poison dart frogs are diurnal. So they hunt and eat during the day. They are mainly bottom dwellers, living in between the foliage and roots that cover the forest floor.
Dendrobates Leucomelas have one of the loudest calls among poison dart frogs. You can hear their call from a long distance distance and the call looks like a bird-like trill.
Dendrobates Leucomelas are easy to care, very active during the day period, they are not so shy as Auratus frogs, so you can observe them during the whole day. The amazing thing for keepers is that these frogs have 10-15 years life span.
