Uroplatus Ebenaui is also known as the Spearpoint Leaf-tailed Gecko. This gecko is endemic of Madagascar, inhabits the island of Nosy Be, but it also can be found in lowland forests stretching from Ankarafantsika to Montagne d’Ambre in the north. Geckos prefer lowland relatively dry deciduous forests. These forests are hot, up to an average maximum temperature of 29°C in the rainy season, 25°C in the dry season. You can meet these geckos at the height of 1–5 m above the ground.
Uroplatus Ebenaui is the smallest species of leaf-tailed gecko, measuring about 9 cm in total length. These geckos have a body shaped like a leaf, they use such camouflage to mimic dry leaves. Their coloration can vary from dark chocolate to lighter beige tones, and some individuals may have a gray or more orange coloration. It is rather easy to distinguish a male from a female: males exhibit a hemipenal bulge.
Uroplatus Ebenaui is an arboreal, nocturnal gecko that rests during the day among dead leaves. It’s also interesting to know that there are other undescribed species of leaf-tailed geckos with similar appearances found in the eastern rainforests. The overall leaf-tailed gecko population faces considerable challenges due to ongoing deforestation and habitat destruction.
