Lygodactylus Williamsi or often named Electric Blue Gecko is a rare small day gecko originally from Tanzania. You can find these geckos only at the small piece of territory of 20 square kilometer within the Kimboza and Ruvu Forest Reserves in the Morogoro Region. In the wild these geckos generally live their entire lives on a single Pandanus plant. So this is the reason why males are very territorial and won’t tolerate the presence of other males.

Males of  Williamsi are bright blue with heavy black throat stripes. Females range from brown or bronze to bright green, and have little to no black on the throat. Females can have the same coloration as juvenile or socially suppressed males that are also green, sometimes with a bluish cast. The underside of both sexes is orange. Colours of individuals vary according to mood and temperature. Males may range from black or gray to brilliant electric blue. Females may range from dark brown to brilliant green with turquoise highlights. The lenght of adult  Lygodactylus Williamsi is 5 to 8 cm. In the wild these geckos generally live their entire lives on a single Pandanus plant, this is the reason why males are very territorial and won’t tolerate the presence of other males.

Currently Lygodactylus Williamsi is declared as Critically Endangered and is placed under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) Appendix I protection. CITES protects threatened and endangered animals through a system of classifications and licensing. Threatened species are categorized into one of three Appendices: I, II, and III.
